How come cheese is easier to eat when it is grated? If I were to try and eat a block of cheese I wouldn't get very far because I would feel sick of it, but I reckon I could easily eat a half kilogram of grated cheese and would probably want more. Why?

I agree with you flashpig, I usually have to be careful when i'm grating cheese as well as it never seems to look like as much when you are grating it! and a lot of cheese at once is not good for you! I could eat truckloads of it when its grated though, but sliced it never seems as nice...!
Sorry, I can eat cheese just as well in slices or chunks, maybe I'm just a cheese freak!
maybe it's because it's already broken down for you and your digestion and your jaws  don't have such a hard job.
I've often thought about that. It's the same with mashed potato. You eat so much more when it's mashed. there's no way I could eat the same amount if it was a pile of potatoes
For me, it's to do with the texture.  I don't like biting into a solid chunk of cheese at all, but as you say flashpig, I could easily eat the equivalent weight if it was grated.  And, I suspect, the finer I grated the cheese, the more I could eat.
