For 12 down, I had SOLO, then changed it to SOLE to fit with perilous (20a).

I did exactly the same as you spellright I put solo then changed it to sole and it fitted with perilous, I then changed it to lone as I thought JMR's suggestion fitted better. Now I am totally confused LOL

hi again... I'm sticking with lone. Some of these clues are a bit irritating as quite often you can come up with a couple of answers which will fit. I must try to give up doing this crossword as it invariably leaves me in a bad mood LOL it's already been lobbed into the waste-paper bin twice this afternoon...
