If you'd have been coming from a European country, served by budget flights from the UK, it might have been worth waiting until fairly late on to see what special offers were available.

However, if you're looking for trans-Atlantic flights to the world's most visited city (London) in its busiest month of the year (August) there simply aren't going to be any last minute bargains available. You should simply book as early as possible.
