sounds a bit like a quinsy.
i've had one and it is horrendous pain.
if he has difficulty swallowing his own saliva, then it may need lancing. Can he get some strong antibiotics?

I suppose there are lots of throat infections it could be, but just in case, he really should get to see the best doctor he can.

No tonsil....can't be a quinsy
Quinsy is a peritonsillar abscess......no tonsil then no peritonsillar space.

Difficult to say....could be glandular fever.

Question Author
Sqad, is it contangious as Ive got tonsilitus!
Yes it is lil .......you had better see your GP for a blood test as you could both have Glandular Fever.
It sounds like he has strep throat or it could be something called thrushing. it happens in the throat. but in this case you said when he got off the plane he felt sick am also thinking food poisioning. A really bad one.
if he's in a decent hotel the concierge ought to be able to find him a doctor. If he's not, he could try ringing the British consul/embassy.
will you let us know how he is?

Crisgal, yes I will do, thanks everyone for ur time and help x
Tonsilectomies don't always remove all the tonsils so it is still possible to get tonsillitus.
how is he today, lil?
I'm in agreement with cathyhuns. I too have had my tonsils out but have still had tonsillitus since.... Not as often as when I did have tonsils though I might add....
Could be swine flu.....
