Every now and then, I get emails from Meet the Messenger and whoever it is they know my msn user name, but it isn't from any of my msn contacts...so anyone had similar or know whether this is spam or a scam? Ta Muchly.

Don't get involved with it. You will be giving them your email password so they will have access to your address book.

They are not part of Messenger, so just delete all emails.

Someone was having the same issue and I said:


Do not fill in these sort of links. They then take your user details, log in to your email and MSN and spam all your contacts with "entertaining" sites. This means links to porn.

I made something similar as an experiment once to show people and got 8 genuine MSN logins and email within a few hours:

Naturally, I didn't use them and informed the users what they had done was stupid to say the least.

It's called SPIMMING and is becoming a problem especially among younger users of MSN.

I passed your advice on Ethel . Thing is there's so many hoax 'warning' emails around I wonder if anyone takes any notice . The level of security awareness of lot of users scares me

well, they'd be wasting their time with me then, cos I can't even see myself never mind them....and my link from email wouldn't connect either to AB so had to go the long way round...but my pc is doing it's daily scan so maybe that's the reason for me at any rate.
