Question 1)
My friend want to get rid of all his grass in his back garden. It's an area about 12ft X 15ft . He is going to replace it with gravel or slate.

Can someone please tell me what is the best and quickest way of doing this

Question 2)
He want to do the same in his front garden but he has quite a few shrubs in it. He want to put bark down as it is very hard to mow in between all the shubs.

Should he kill the weeds and grass off first before he puts that black weed suppressent stuff dow?. If so whats the best thing to use so that he doesn't damage or worse still kill the shrubs?

Any advice wpuld be appreciated. Thank you.

I asume bidim cloth is garden fabric? Anyway, - I probably would use the 'easier' route & just cut the grass & lay the fabric. May also be worth considering bark as a cheaper alternative depending what you want to do with the area.
Sorry - I didn't see the 2nd question...
Sodium chlorate will no doubt likk off the grass. Then a fabric liner over the top, or even plastic liner. Without that. some grass will inevitably come through. Only use the chlorate on the exact space you wish to eliminate grass. Or nearby plants will suffer. It worked for me.
