Hi. I'm trying to make a national insurance payment using HSBC online banking. I have to select a payee from their list but it is endless! I don't know which one I should select. The whole list is a bit long to type but I'm guessing it's one out of two of them which are: HMRC NIC DEF and HMRC NIC QUARTERLY These are the only two with NIC in so I guess it must be one. I haven't got a clue what the abbreviations are. Does anyone here know and does anyone else pay through HSBC? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I agree that those lists aren't helpful- it's the same for all banks.
It will be easier to ask whoever wants the money (HMRC?) for a sort code and account number. If they have asked you for the money I'm sure they would have told you these details on the form/letter. Then just set the payment up yourself on the HSB internet banking
Thanks for your answers. I have the sort code and account number but I think HSBC insist that you pay through their list of payees if they are on the list. I'll ring HMRC helpline (I'm phoning that a lot lately!) and see what they say. That lady does seem to have the same query as me in that link. Maybe it is quarterly. I'll give them a ring to check anyway.
Thanks for your help!
Another thing is I am about to set up a direct debit with them but haven't yet so this will be a one off payment. I guess it might fit into the quarterly. Not sure though!
