Spells

I have a friend who is a member of a pentecostal church. She recently asked me if, while driving, I had ever noticed the tape from inside a cassette on the verge of the road. I told her I had, on several occasions, and she informed me that this was a method used by witches/satanists or other "dark forces" to cast spells to make people crash!!! She said that on a particular stretch of busy road near us, elders from her church would go and find this cassette tape and remove it and pray over the spot. I just want to know if anyone else has ever heard of this as it kind of freaked me out because today I drove along a different road and saw what appeared video tape wrapped around a bush!!!!!

I hope it isn't starting up again. It's complete nonsense, and you mustn't let it scare you. It was not connected particularly to driving, it was supposed to be placing a sense of evil in particular places. The thing is if you let it frighten you, you will be conscious of this when driving, and will be more likely to have an accident. I suggest you disregard any further nonsense, and suggest that you find more stable friends. Take care.
Yes, this was a common occurrence about 6 years age, but has since fallen into disuse. It's complete nonsense, and you mustn't let it scare you. If you do you will be conscious of this when driving, which will make you nervous and more likely to have an accident. It was not particularly aimed at driving, but more of supposedly causing an atmosphere of evil in particular places. It is to be hoped that this is not starting up again, as it frightens people. I suggest you completely disregard this idiotic nonsense, and perhaps find yourself some more stable friends.
This old chestnut again? It pops up about once a year.
It's not so much Satanic Forces; more to do with the fact that the car is the last bastion of cassette players and tapes wear out and ravel in the players - and surprise surprise people toss them out the window without rewinding them into the case.
But if it keeps the Born Again fundys happy and busy, don't tell them.

Thanks for all the replies folks. I did think it was utter nonsense, this girl was a bit of a party animal until she "found" God, now she's happy clapping with the best of them! I just had never heard of this before and found it a bit un-nerving. I'm a good catholic girl, and the mere suggestion of oul nick, sends me searching for the rosary beads!!!!
A cassette players tape head misaligned by 1/32 of an inch can have that effect on some folks.
Mrspoppins, you intrigue me.
You tell us about the business with the roadside tapes and then tell us that you are half-prepared to laugh at such nonsense with the rest of us.
But then you say "I'm a good catholic girl."
Does it not occur to you that what you believe as "a good catholic girl" is a hundred times more nonsensical than what you were told about the tapes? How do you make the distinction?

Actually I have seen tape from a cassette spread for yards down the verge of a road and have never considered it was anything more than that the tape broke/whatever and was tossed out by someone with little sense of tidiness !!
But then again, I found out recently the significance of a pair of sneakers tied together and tossed up over the power lines and I'll bet the pentacostals have no connections with that at all.
