am i mad to want to try my baby in terrie's nappies when he arrives?
when i worked as a nursery nurse, i looked after a few babies who wore them and have generally never seen a problem with them - even the thought of poo everywhere doesn't phase me. he's gonna poo anyway, and i'm gonna have to clean it, so again, i just can't see a problem with it.
BUT all of my friends (a few who are also expecting) have been shocked/disgusted/found it amusing that i want to give them a try...they made me feel a bit embarassed really.
it's nothing to do with keeping costs down (or the environment for that matter), i just want to give them a go, but everyone is telling me i'm wrong to want to use them.
am i?!

I honestly think if you want to try it then you should do. I imagine it will add to the hard work you will already have but it is a choice for you to make. No need to be embarassed and no you are not mad! If you decide you don't like them then that is fine. It is all about trial and error with babies and finding out what is best for baby and you. All the best with baby when it comes.

All my daughter's friends who have just had babies use terry nappies . They use a nappy sevice who collect and deliver. Apparently it works out about the same cost wise. I think they are kinder to the baby as well, they seem to get less nappy rash.

Honestly, i considered it but as I ended up on my own it was just too much more work to do!
Go for it if that's what you want to do, you can always change later.

I timed myself one day, everything to do with washing/drying/folding/changing terry nappies and it came to an amazing

15 minutes!

I really liked being in control, ie it was not up to the local shop to have nappies in stock, and it was a much greener option, the concept of throwing away all that material several times a day really bothered me. The nappies were used for all kinds of mopping up too, for years!

In these days of automatic washing machines, what's the problem? Go with what feels right for you.

Well if you really want an honest answer, yes your mad!!! Only joking. I personally wouldn't use them and thats because in my experience, I'm a nursery nurse too, they have been crap. I've seen various types and they've either made the child's bum really sore, leaked everywhere all the time or been so bulky the child can hardly walk!
Of course this is no one elses business except yours. If you want to try them then do so! Good for you!

I used them on both of mine and it worked well! OK....the 'nappy bucket' was a bit wiffy, but a good boil wash and they were as good as new!!!!! Neither suffered nappy rash.....like you say...if they're gonna poop, they're gonna poop....then you change them anyway :O} Make sure you have enough though, I had 24....12 in the wash and 12 clean and ready.

cheers for your answers everyone, they've all been really helpful and i'm glad i'm not the only one who wants to use terries instead of pampers and the like...having said that, i might go crawling back to disposables :o)
i'm definitely going to use them!!

Go for it Lady. Unfortunately I'm not brave enough to go down that route. Plus you will be helping the environment, which is an added bonus.

You probably already know, but they also make convenient fabric nappies, which are shaped like disposable ones, with velcro or popper fastenings, but can obviously be washed.
