If they regain power the next victim will be the nhs, like our other utilities it will be controlled by foreign investors.Cameron now adores thatcher and all that she did for this country, thats great, while she persecuted the working class, she offered support to general pinochet!!. he was wanted for genocide and other war crimes. She despised any form of unity among working people. The question now arises, are the british people ready to offer the control of our country to the old etonian brigade? Be very careful.,
On the other hand, if you want to bankrupt a country vote labour.
When Thatcher came to power the first time she took over from a labour government that had brought this country to its knees (search in google for "winter of discontent).
And she did such a good job she was voted in again at two more general elections (so she cant have been that bad).
And now again we have had a labour government, and yet again they have brought this country to its knees.
I always smile when class warriors make an appearance to rant about potential Tory policy based on MPs' schooling - are you truly unaware that many New Labour MPs went to the same schools (be they Grammar, Independant or Public) as their Conservative counterparts. Have you not noticed the Tory Lite governance instituted by New Labour over the past 12 years? Not much Socialism in evidence with the cosying-up to City bankers that has led us to our present financial predicament..
Let us not forget New Labour's PFI schemes, prevalent throughout the NHS and other areas such as Education and MOD, whereby foreign institutions such as Dutch banks and French power companies "control" British public services. No need to wait for Public School Tories on that initiative, you can already thank Public School New Labourites.
So, the labour party have bankrupted the country and brought it to it's knees. Nothing to do with US sub prime mortgage fiasco and the global economy. Also from what I can recall, the Thatcher government started deregulating the city which I believe encouraged the fat cat culture of greed which is responsible for the exacerbation of our own particular present problems. It sometimes amazes me how some people have this "selective perception" and allow themselves to be lead by the nose by the Tory press.
I think that's right, jason.p. The city of London was deregulated under Thatcher (the 'big bang'.) This put US banks at a competitive disadvantage, so they asked for and received the same deregulation. That's what led to their current problems, which have washed back up on our shores. People say, well, you can't blame Thatcher, she's been out of power for years. But the direct consequences of her actions are still with us, for better or worse.
Unfortunately everyone is so annoyed with Labour (and with good reason) that most will vote Tory just to get rid of Labour. I'm a firm believer in the "none of the above" option: it should be on the voting form to show TPTB that we don't trust any of them.
Blame can correctly be laid upon Mrs Thatcher as instigator but what exactly did Mr Brown do in the past 12 years to counter the "fat cat" culture of greed? You can't perpetuate a culture and then absolve yourself of blame when that very culture explodes (implodes???) under your stewardship - to do so truly is an example of "selective perception".
If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem.
Agreed Kempie, both parties had a role to play, but the public perception thanks to the predominantly Tory press is that Gordon Brown is solely responsible, and this is where the perception becomes selective. The original post suggested that we be wary of a return to Tory power. The voting public must be made aware of the part the Tories played in this financial crisis. If Cameron is now espousing the Thatcher creed as suggested, it won't be long before they're back to their old ways of greedy, get rich quick, fat cat, crumbs from the rich man's table policies which as you agreed probably kicked this whole thing off.
I was taken aback when they said 90% of the opposition front bench were millionaires. I can't imagine many of them wanting to downgrade to help the poor and unfortunate?
well I bl00dy well hope someone privitises the NHS, there must be a more efficient way than this 80bn pa monster of public sector inneficiency. Public sector always have been a shower of sh1t, they think the job exists to give them a job, not because it has a function. You could halve the NHS budget, fire most of the management levels, hire some new doctors/nurses and actually do some bl00dy medicine instead of admin and empire building. So yes sambro, vote Tory and get rid of all the stalinist nutters in the public sector! works for me1
