Just wondering if anyone has any experience of how long it took them for their periods to come back after they came off the injection.
Once my relationship ended I came off the injection to give my body a break and didn't need to contraceptive protection.
I was hoping it was short term as I am also on it for PCOS.
Since my last one last July time I have had the horrible pains and PMT and such but no bleeding.
I know it can take a while but just wondered how long it usually takes for it to come back properly before I pop to the doctors to make sure all is ok.
It's also important as at some point I want to have a family (need the man first though :)) and it'd be good to have an idea as to how long it might take next time to get back on track.
for me it was 9 months after the 3 months use of the last one (if you see wht i mean! - 12 months in all, but 9 months after the last one was supposedly out
It took over two years after having my last depo before my periods returned, but I had been on it for about ten years.
I fell pregnant quite quickly afterwards.
They state that fertillty returns about nine months after having your last depo.
Wow! I feel more normal now, was starting to get worried which it didn't reappear.
All I wanted was one so I can go back on again but am tempted to just give in and go back on it due to the evil time of the monthness (and maybe PCOS related) which seems to be worse, just no blood.
May go and have a chat through with the GP and see what she thinks.
Can't add to this really Jenna. It can take a while to get back into a normal pattern, so to speak, but if teh PCOS thing bothers you, it might help you to know that myt friend had it. Her doctor put her on Metformin for a short while. Three months later she was pregnant and now has a beautiful baby son, so good luck when the time comes.
I am currently coming off depo. It took about 2 months to get my first period and I have started taking the pill. I was on depo for about 6 years. I am suffering a lot at the moment though! Mood swings and extremely sore breasts.
I thought it would take longer for my period to come especially after being on it for so long. I think it is just down to the individual. The feeling I am getting though is it is going to take a while for them to settle down! My first was very heavy and lasted a week then I was off for a few days and then on again for nearly another week. In a way I wish I had just stayed on depo as it was less hassle but as you say I would like a family some day and did not want to jeopardise that by staying on depo too long.
