People keep refering to things being ..pants.. What the  hell does pants stand for and who started using the phrase?

�Pants' is simply a British updating of/variation on �knickers' in the sense of �rubbish'. The knickers/pants connection - always a worthwhile conjunction! -and their meaning of �rubbish' can be confirmed if you click here

It also came from a Rednose Day when everyone was asked to wear pants!

Prior to that date, no-one wore any, of course.

LellyDi - I doubt Red Nose Day was the cause of the phenomena... I personally favour Quizmonster's historically accurate description and link provided.
