potential dogs for working couple
6 Answers
two dog lovers but with full time jobs wondering if anyone has recommendation of suitable ages breeds that cope with owners absent.
We work from home once a week, and can't wait to give early morning and evening walks
We have secure garden and shelter for during the days we're away from home

They would happily sleep all day, provided they can get out to go to the toilet if they need it. Two would keep each other company, and they are so laid back they will settle very quickly. Anything that needs more attention or training would be a disaster.
If it is the walks you are after, you should try contacting your local dog shelters, and offer your services as volunteer dog walkers.
Then you can walk the dogs all you like, but without them being locked up alone while you are away.
Lots of dog charities are desparate for help, especially as more and more dogs are being abandoned during the recession.

I wouldn't recommend ex racing greyhounds they are not suitable for leaving for long periods and having 2 doesn't always solve potential separation anxiety issues. A friend of mine had one which howled and barked terribly when my friend left the house so she got another to keep it company and ended up with two howling and barking greyhounds !! Also they are not suitable to be kennelled outside due to their coats. Why not volunteer at a rescue shelter they are often looking for people to walk the dogs.
