Can anyone please tell me how much current is drawn by the very bright white LED's that are often used in torches these days? I guess that the voltage is something like 3 volts being used in hand torches

Thanks for any assistance

They are rated in watts, just like any other light source...

The latest ones are 5w at 12 volt... so that would be 2.4amps (That gives the same light output as a 50watt halogen bulb BTW)

Thank you. Are you referring to the 12 volt MR16 Halogen spots? I was meaning the small white LED's that are about the same size and shape as the traditional coloured LED's. My daughter bought me a hand torch which uses such a device and the battery seems to be lasting 'forever' which I suggest means very low current drawn by the LED and the brightness of the torch is incredible.

Thank you for your input
Cheers

Thank you Kempie, those are the ones and I thought they would be very low current but I did''nt think they would be such a low price. :) The link was very useful
