Election.

Elect+ Ion
Could Beatrice35 explain this a bit more fully please? Where does the 'ion' come from?
Ion is an atom or molecule with a net electric charge through loss or gain of electrons, either positive or negative.

Elect = to choose.

The ion refers to the second part of clue
Election......Elec + *into
pbeach How is Elec a word?
Surely Elect = to choose + Ion ( Electric charge) makes more sense?
Cutting off 'electric' halfway through only gives you 'elec' anyway. I'm obviously missing something glaringly obvious here, but we really need to explain 'tion', not just 'ion'. The definition of 'ion' you kindly spelled out, doesn't really show how the letters of 'election' are obtained . . . .
Electric cut off halfway through gives elec
No, it does not, Beatrice35! Once again you have shown that your working out of clues is hopeless. Thank God for pbeach and some logic!
Cut Election halfway through = Elec
leading = into
anagram it - chaos
= ELECTION Choosing.
Thank goodness that there are more good people in this world than the likes of Catty ones!! Thanks Novalis for your explanation- hearing it from you is perfectly fine as you are one of the good guys. Okay so my explanation was not spot on even though worked out that it was Election- right answer. Yet, my working out does still kind of make sense( maybe there are 2 ways of seeing the answer anyhow). Not interested in your opinions ever Cat- when will you realise this?!
Thank God often , in a positive way + thank God for all the many blessings in this life plus all the lovely people on this earth. Have plenty of hope as am an optimist + a Christian
:-)
No, there are not two ways of working the clue out Beatrice! Leave clues to those who can work them out, not guess an answer, as you frequently do. You are so selfish that you do not think of the person asking the question, who would like to know how the answer is reached.

Wow! I had no idea my little question would lead to such fuss and bother but thank you all anyway
You haven't a clue Cat. Am not selfish or any other negative words you like to always send this direction + answer many questions correctly yet you are never around to see them or would not dare acknowlege it if you were. Any more nonsense you want to fling my way?! Can you say anything kind- never see you saying anything postive to anyone as a matter of fact here, you are even cruel to many other posters including the lovely Lie-in-King!! Rarely see you answering questions just nitpicking or being your usual catty self.
Apologies shishbish yet Catron is a real pain in the neck + wish could ignore her every time as she really is not worth any words typed back in response to her, truly!!
Got it; thanks. It was of course to do with the letters; nothing to do with the scientific explanation of the ion.
You don't get this do you Beatrice? Even when pbeach gave the correct wordplay for this clue, you still have the affrontery to suggest there are two ways of working the clue.

And still there is no apology to the questioner or to Timessolver who would have been completely at a loss to understand the clue were it not for others.
Come on - play nicely. I thought this was supposed to be fun. Don't take it so seriously.
Part of the problem is that the clue, as posted, was incomplete. The second half should have read -'leading INTO chaos'

Therefore pbeach was almost correct with his explanation-
ELEC ( Electricity halfway through) leading to TION (anagram/ chaos INTO)
