rediculous or what?
11 Answers
at my high school (years 9 - 13) (ages 13-18) there is a common room for the sixth form, a large concourse and a large atrium.
so what did the school do in the middle of a credit crunch?
they're building a year 11 common room and transforming the atrium by giving it a proper roof and floor and buying comfy sofas, one ps3 and one wii.
(the plans for the year11 common room havent been finalised)
someone in the student union said that the school will permently employ people to work in the common room and atrium which will cost even more.
but i don't see how arguments aren't going to break out when theres teo consoles (4 players) for 500 people at the moment. plus the middle schools are closing so that number will double in a couple of years.
have you ever heard of such rediculousness. (if that's a word)???????????????????????????????????????

The money may have been committed in a budget passed over a year ago. If the school does not allocate it, it loses it. there is only a certain amount of leeway in how much of certain finds can be moved over to other funds. So, if you have been given a specific budget for school rebuilding (as many secondary schools have) then you can't decide it's better to spend it on books or computers, even if it would be more sensible to do that.
However, all this is information that is in the public domain- you are entitled to answers under the freedom of information act - so I would get your Student Voice group to express their views urgently to the chairman of governors in the first instance. Nothing concrete is to be gained from sounding off here, unless it makes you feel better. Make real waves by complaining properly to people whose job is to make a difference to your school.

1000 in year 11!! I'd like to know where such a big school is? Wouldn't it be 1000 Divided by 5 and then be 200 that could potentialy be there at any one time? Then unless they are absolute yobs they could have a booking system such as they do in the library.
Isn't year 11 16year olds? All those selfish, selfrightious hormones courseing through their viens. Oh what joy to be a modorn teacher :)
It's all about allocation and use it or loose it. Why do you think the MPs have 'mad march' where they get as many spurious expences claims in before the end of the tax year?
