Ebay, can sellers fix it?

Whats to stop a seller getting his friends, relatives from bidding on an item to up the best price?

I was outbid tonight and I'm sure it was fixed as the winner never had a name or past buying or selling record.

probably was if you get a second chance offer tell them to shove it.

there is a lot of that going on ebay. they have made it worst by hiding the bidders names.

If someone wants to make a certain amount, they shouldn't be so stingy and pay extra to put a reserve on!

Thought it went on, but am I being naive too? Surely that tactic could backfire if the friend or relative put in a bid and the genuine bidders decided not to go any higher? Then the sale would be lost?

it's an auction. If you no longer want it at the price it's reached, don't bid, same as in a real-life physical auction. As slinkycat says, you risk losing the sale so it's a risky tactic.

Morning Folks - I am an avid Ebay seller and buyer - Ebay will find out if you use someone on a regular basis to up the bidding. I tried it once and they banned me for a little while.

I have noticed too these secret bidding names - I thought they only used this when an item had reached over �100, but it seems to be used quite a lot lately. I think Ebay would still find out though. Some still slip through the net.

I have bought some really good bargains on Ebay and have equally sold quality items.

I love ebay as I have mobility problems I shop on-line a lot. I was very naive and didn't realise this went on until I got a second chance offer. I don't bid as such but always put my top price in and leave it to the system so am probably being 'bumped' half the time.
