So the McCann's are going to sue the Portuguese police chief over comments made about dear Maddies disappearance. Who the hell do they think they are?? Parents who leave three children under the age of 4 alone should be locked up. As soon as they landed in the UK they should have been arrested for negligence and social services should have launched an enquiry, and they are still allowed to "care" for their twins, it beggars belief! I am so mad with them as parents and blame them totally, I was and still am so upset and disgusted with them for leaving their kids alone, in fact I have a recurring dream that I find Maddie whilst on holiday in Malta and bring her home safely (I truly wish this will come true in August).

I agree with everything Denise has written.

We have 3 children and have never left them alone until they were well into their teens.

Why did these 2 have children at all if they were not prepared to give them 100% of their attention?

Of course, the b*****d who took this precious child must shoulder a lot of blame, but if those 2 had been with their children the b*****d would not have been able to take this girl.

And to one of the posters above....I am not perfect and and have never claimed to be...I am a parent and therefore put my children at the top of the list.

Unfortunately booze and selfish fun are on the top of those 2's list. I hope they are going through hell every minute of every day...

and about suing that policeman.....maybe they are doing that in order to assuage the giant dollop of guilt they feel at being found out.
I can safely say I have never done it twr, that said though its true that they will have to live with what has happened forever. I hope madeline turns up but its not looking too likely now

OK TWR I see what you are saying, but do you think parents who are found out to have left 3 babies unattended / The McCanns should still be entrusted to look after the twins?? as if nothing has happened. Do you not think those twins should have been taken by social services pronto and the parents investigated in the UK. Thats what usually happens isn't it. Why were the McCanns whisked away in a private car home when they landed in the UK and not whisked away in a police van straight to jail??????????
TWR - I can say with hand on heard that me and Mr. Den never left our son on his own (Holiday or at home) alone.
On holidays, if we went out in the evening, he would come with us. Family holidays, are just that FAMILY - if you want to go out on the pi$$, then arrange a babysitter.

I agree with Den and I don No. I have a 12 yr old daughter and a 10 yr old son, I would never leave them on their own never. Our social life comes way below our children, and when on holiday when my two get tired we go back to the hotel/apartment so they can go to bed and me and my hubby have a drink on the balcony, that is what a family holiday entails. I also agree that suing the police chief is taking the focus off of themselves for being totally pathetic selfish parents.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be investigated as regards leaving the children alone; but that surely depends on the law in Portugal.
You really think the twins would be better off in care? Have you read the recent reporting on the UK's fostering / adoption problems?
I also feel that the fact that you feel no compassion for them says more about you than them.
Even if they were to be charged with anything (which they haven't been) the case should be dealt with properly and without mob hysteria. It is easy to wind people up with emotive language when these things sadly happen, that does not make you right.
Do you have any idea how it feels for a child of yours to die? or worse, to be lost without trace? I hope not but doubt it, because if you had you would be able to empathise with them, even whilst condeming their thoughtless actions.
The couple as you are aware Denise are professional people but as you point out, they should not have left the children alone, apart from the Media coverage which is world wide, the Humiliation & finger pointing must has a hell of a lot of effect on these two parents, again I stress I do not condone what they have done but I WILL go back to my previous answer a couple have stated that they "Hand on heart" have never left their children, this site covers a vast area & there are upon thousands I presume use it, It will be interesting to see IF anyone has done the same thing.

Madmaggot. You are not listening to me :I would never leave my children unattended to go and get pi$$ed with friends who do the same .. THATS THE DIFFERENCE. So I would not put my precious kids in that position. Strangely enough I dont think the twins should be left with the parents, of course I dont, what could be worse? Taken into care would be a safer option YES, thats what social services do to hundreds of kids a week. I live next door to our local NSPCC offices, I can assure you the staff there dont go out every night and leave these kids unattended to go and get bladdered... I can vouch for that !!! They look after them on a 2:1 ration - UNLIKE THE MCCANNS
I also, never left my children on their own even for 10 minutes. But, I was fortunate to have good neighbours and friends and family nearby that I could call on if necessary. I don't think I would have left them anyway. I certainly would not have done so in order to socialise.
But that does not give me that right to take a high and mighty stance on the issue; I recognise that people are not perfect and that the McCanns are parents who have incurred a lifetime's suffering for making a terrible mistake.
Denisec, you don't need to leave your children alone or be negligent for them to be killed or go missing. Unfortunately it can happy to the best parents or even to just ordinary average parents, which most of us are.

I know that kids can get Madmaggot... but thats not the question?? You are wandering off the issue of "negligent" parents i.e. the McCanns, who at the end of the day chose their social lives over their kids. Full stop. I rest my case. God bless Maddie x
I think you will find that it is NOT law that children under 14 can't be left alone. It varies from county to county.
I seem to recall hearing at one point that all the friends' children were sleeping in the apartment at the time, whilst the adults were out enjoying themselves, the adults taking turns to go over and check on the kids.

Whilst I don't think the parents had a conscious hand in the child's disappearance, I remain convinced that something other than mere dining and boozing went on that night that the group didn't want the police to know about (use your imagination). Being respected people (he is a senior heart surgeon), it wouldn't have looked too good to the world's press if that had come out. I reckon they and their friends conspired and concocted their stories to cover all this up and to save their respectable, middle-class faces.

The search for their daughter has been seriously hampered as a result and I doubt they will ever find her, alive or dead.

Yes you are probably right. The friends are guilty too. Surely the adults could have taken it in turn over the 14 nights to babysit the kids? So there was 1 adult present every night with them? So they are ALL guilty for letting it happen. Sad state of affairs.
Yes the parents shouldnt of left them but seriously you dont really expect someone to come in and steal your child so yes they were naive on the night and in hindsight shouldnt of left them but the person who should be locked up is the sicko person who stole maddie!! How dare someone steal a child, somebody elses child!
It probably didnt cross the mccanns mind that a lunatic would enter their apartment whilst they were having dinner, its not something you expect to happen!
However i personally wouldnt leave my child alone also for the reason i would be worried about her waking up, being upset, wandering around etc.
Question Author
Yes but unfortunately its a fact of life. There are loads of sickos about, who need locking up/castrating etc..I wholeheartedly agree but what made the McCanns & Co. think being in a different country made a difference? - there are sickos worldwide ... thats just common sense - you dont have to be a senior heart surgeon to comprehend that ! And yes, it is disgusting that people should think they can abduct your children... again... another fact of life unfortunately... but common sense surely..
Is it Groundhog Day, again, already...........?

I didnt read the other posts as I have ny own take.I think that you and other like minded are way too much 'there but for the grace of gawd...'

They are gonna suffer for the rest of their lives along with their other children yet people still post and cast stones -we live in a mad world where it doesnt seem there is any empathy little alone sympathy.

I would so love to so self righteous -thankfully I live in the real world.
We all get caught up in moments and situations and when your on holiday in a well lit place with families, lots of people about etc you dont think for one second any harm will come to your children and a mad person will steal one of them!
Yes its a fact of life bad things happen but we are all naive sometime! We are all humans and so are they!
They made a terrible mistake and i dont think there is a second that goes by that they wish they could reverse the clock and have their child back!
Its easy to use the "its just common sense" to explain all the things that go wrong in the world! If we all used our common sense all the time then the world would be a perfect place! but its not! people make mistakes and errors of judgement and its a shame people dont use common sense 100% of the time....but thats life.
Ridiculing the mccanns even more is pointless! You can see the pain on their faces everytime and i for one feel desperately sorry for them and really hope they get maddy back.
Yes they made a mistake but they didnt deserve their child to be stolen.
