Yes I would!!!! Love Spain, particularly Cataluna. The people are friendly, the food is good and there is a lot of things to do and see. There are a lot of small towns around Barcelona that are relatively inexpensive and yet are within 30 min. of Barcelona. I love the area's that are on the Mediteranian as I like the ocean and the beaches and being able to walk there. However, there are a lot of small inland towns with character. I actually got to live in Spain for 6 months and loved it. Wish I could have stayed longer. I have also traveled over most of Spain and all areas have their good qualities. I have a friend that is English and has lived in Spain for 20 plus years that I have know him. Up until recently he owned a business there. I don't think you could find a better "foreign" country to live in.
Hi sitges --
very interesting to know that you like spain.
We've been to Benidorm 5--6 times and love it there, but
we recently came back from mercia, and loved it there too.
We have 2 close relatives living there now, and they'd love us to move there.
We are so tempted to move there, and know that we'd have a much better life than we have now?

I actually have been all over Spain with the exception of the Southern Mediteranian Coast, but I have not found any place there that I would not concider to live in. Even the Basque Country with all of its problems seemed nice. There is just something about the people in Spain and their attitudes that seems so real. I feel that there is less class distinction in Spain then I feel exists in other countries. I know that it just a feeling but it goes along way in making you feel at home and not that you are intruding into their country.
while staying with our relatives for 2 weeks, we met up with lots of people , elderly like us. 2 of them went for hol for 2 weeks and never went home again,! They sold up straight away and have been so happy in Spain. Another couple at the airport was seething because they had to go home for a week, after dad sent them money to visit him. (poor dad)
Even if we never do make the break, its nice to daydream !!!
Thanks for you replies sitges, have a nice day

hiya djtdjt, Yes I feel the same .
I've been talking about it again today. The diffrence with trying to find work, and not having to find work, makes it all the more alluring to us. we're retired and have a regular income, and we've seen how we could manage quite easily. Going abroad and seeing how they live makes it appetizing to say the least. (mercia are)
I just keep wondering what we'll do in the near future ?
maybe its best go there for a couple of weeks again to get the feel of the place, and see how we feel.
I must admit that I would miss our camping in England , with all our lovely camp sites around the country, but that is all I think I'd miss. The kids, hopefully would come out often and visit us ?,
I wouldnt think no more of it if I thought that that would never happen . I'd miss them loads

It is very easy to get long term holiday lets in Spain, for a month, two months, three months or more.
That's the way to go. Give it a try, in summer and winter.
You will see lots of expats dithering in their coats in the winter, while you have your short sleeves on. You do acclimatize if you have become used to extremely hot summers, so bear in mind you will be needing air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter.
