Unibond clear bathroom sealant

Sw an ad on the TV for the clear sealant. the ad says how the sealant will not rot for years. It shows a hand applying the sealant to a bath tub edge without the required plunger. Dont these sealants require that cumbersome plunger to get the sealant out of the tube. It cannot be done just by hand. So isnt the ad a misdiscription.

If they get away with showing a couple hanging up a bookcase using No-More-Nails, by just pressing it against a wall, and hey presto! it's stuck, they can get away with anything.

I haven't seen the ad you mention but the stuff I use is Dow Corning which is supplied with a sealing gun cost about �10 inc vat.

If you are a lay person and you understand that it needs a gun how can it be misleading?

Tim Baxter, you tell me, does it need a gun to apply?. I dont know, I suspect it does but I am not sure. I would love to own a sealant that does not require a gun for application and would buy the product as advertised. Any selant that can be applied by squeezing the tube will hold an advantage over the other types of sealant available. But upon reaching the store if i find that it does need a gun then i would feel cheated by the advert. That was the point i was making.

Unibond make several sealants that don't need a gun to apply. They have a nozzle a bit like the ones on squirty cream cans.

If you only have a small amount of sealing to do then they are great. For bigger jobs its best to get a professional in.

How on earth do I know if it needs a gun, I haven't seen the ad? What I would say is that the sealant guns (even for a non-professional like me) are easy to use 'cos you can get constant pressure which means a constant 'bead' of sealant along your groove. You say 'hand applying the sealant' do you mean a hand squeezing the tube or literally a hand/fingers putting the goo in place? (Most professionals apply the goo and then wet their finger and run it up the grove to even out the sealant)

If you suspect that you need a gun, ring your local DIY and ask. I've always found them very helpful.
