British Gas offer , too good to be true?
6 Answers
In today's papers British Gas have an offer for the over 60s, living in England and not claiming benefits.
It says that they should be eligible for a government rebate of 300 towards the cost of upgrading to a new energy-efficient boiler or central heating system. Also, until the 27th July 2007, British Gas will also give an extra 400 off as part of their Summer Sale.
Is there anyone there who has taken up this offer, or is there anyone who is qualified to say whether this seems a good deal, or not?
Any informative comments would be welcome.
Many thanks.

As the answer above suggests, British Gas prices are so much higher than those of other qualified gas-fitters that their wonderful-sounding 'offers' generally mean that the work they do is still more expensive!
By all means, get them to visit and give you a quote, but also invite another couple of Corgi-registered guys to do the same. I did just that last year re a new boiler and had no difficulty in opting for the independent tradesman at a considerable saving.

I put a quote in for a new boiler exchange recently and it was 1000 cheaper than BG. The customer still paid the extra because he wanted a BG certificate. Only to find that I came along ( as an BG approved contractor ) and an ex BG employer who has seen the light, to fit it for him at twice the price. He was not too impressed but he got his BG stamped CORGI cert instead of my LOGO stamped on the CORGI cert. ONE expensive privalige isnt it having the BG logo on you're CORGI cert... When most of there fitters are contractors anyways. We can do the job far cheaper than any BG special offer...
