Wouldn't you hate to say you live in this town/city in Canada? Here.

Do you or someone you know live in a weird sounding place. Artee should have some beauties from NZ!

Pi**er. The asterisks are s

That site is brilliant!!  :-)

I tried to copy the link & email it to my friends, but when I paste it on to an email it's not a link... if that makes sense??  & I've highlighted it & clicked the hyperlink button, but it doesn't wrk... what am I doing wrong??

shouldn't matter too much, fairy - if it doesn't become a link, the recipient can still highlight it and copy and paste it.

Sometimes hitting the space bar after the URL helps turn it into a link.

I should add some Aussie names apart from Woy Woy. Near Cairns is Yorkie's Knob, in the NT you can step into Humpty Doo and in Vic. you can see Tittybong. In New Zealand a popular place is Waikickamoocow and because the Maori place names pronounce "W H" as "F" Whakatane can cause alarm.

My next quest is to nominate what two places should become "Twin Towns" or Sister Cities. I nominate Brown Willy and Turdees

Places near me are

**** Pond
Mincing Lane
Tyttenhanger
Titsey Park
Pratt's Bottom
Herbert's Hole
Knob Hill
Claggy Cott
Pishill
Minges

And don't forget these two in Australia:

Chinaman's Knob and Wet Beaver Creek

That should read C0ck Pond.

There's also an island in Western Australia called Middle Intercourse Island.

graemer, I don't think Waikikamukau actually exists... any comment, artee??
There is a place in donegal called 'Bloodyforeland' and also a place called 'Muff'
I like this game!

Further afield, don't forget F**king in Austria (a placename, not a pastime) and the Shetland Islands village of Tw*tt.

As for the Canadian place that graemer found, look on the bright side. A 3 bedroom bungalow there will only set you back $35,000 Canadian - so at least the embarrassment is affordable!

BigDogsWang - that poor woman :-) Mind you, I'm jealous of the chap in the middle of the top row. Demetrius Breedlove? Now that's a name!

jno, I've been sprung! Waikikamukau is indeed a made up name to describe somewhere far away. Here we say Woop Woop or "out the back of Burke". Where is Artee, I'm sure there are good names in NZ!

Littleoldme that bungalow sounds a bargain, but I believe the constant vibrations get you down!

graemer, I don't think you'll find anything very hilarious in NZ - it was settled by well-bred mid-Victorian (and later) families who didn't invent dodgy names. Australia was settled by a racier breed of Brit and just that bit earlier - starting from Regency times before Victorian propriety set in.

I've just found this thread - it's wonderful graemer. Do you do this sort of thing often?!

They say life is one big coincidence and it never fails to amaze me but smudge (are you still there, smudge?) but I put my parents post code and got a lot of the amusing place names as you got! Our Essexness must be roubd about the same place! I liked Bummers Hill.

No I backtracked and we're not that near at all.
Now my initial excitement has worn off and I have read the whole thread (yes, graemer, I know that is what I should have done first!) I see proximity has already been discusssed. Sorry!

Hi Artful, "do this thing often?" you mean schoolboy humour?! I stumbled onto that Canadian place and it just tickled my fancy so to speak. What is funny is after I posted it, I was scared it might offend some of our more "Genteel" folk but the reaction was hilarious thanks to kitty's clever site. Thanks once again all!
