Can a few of you tell me what they call the afternoon snack meal that kids have when they come home from school? A few because it may change from region to region. When I was a kid I had my main meal at 5pm so didn't have this kind of afternoon snack.
In France they call this a 'go�ter' but I don't know how to translate this into English. Some adults have a 'quatre heures' which can be translated into 'tea' but don't know how to translate 'go�ter'.

tea in this sense meaning a light meal.
in english, gouter just means 'sample, taste or enjoy' so it could cover any manner of things.

Thanks Ankou for your reply. What I'm looking for is what parents and kids call the snack kids have on getting home from school. French kids call it a go�ter and comprises usually a fruit drink or milk and a cake, croissant or something else to tie them over to dinner. I don't think they call it afternoon tea.

We just call it ' snack' in our house - but that's probably not very helpful to you!
