this happens occasionally, connection via my netgear wireless router to my laptop is normally good but occasionally when trying to "aquire IP address" it fails all I do is plug in an ethernet cable from the router to the laptop to get round the prob, but why should that happen when my nodem is connected to the router by cable anyway, which suggests it's the router that has the fault, I did change the router channel recently which fixed it for a while, so I'm waiting to see if I can connect wirelessly later, anything else worth trying?
If you're seeing the IP connecting message on your computer, then it's likely meaning the internal IP range, which is set by the router.
So, it's the router at fault.
It just sounds like it can't get a decent signal sometimes.
I'd:
1) Change the wifi channel, see if that helps.
2) Move as much stuff between laptop and router, ideally minimal walls, etc.
3) Move other transmitting things away too, like baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones.
