All I can see is that LP ALP and PAL are all abbreviations.
Try PAL abbreviation in google and there semm to be over 70 instances of it.
I don't get the ALP/LAP combination however.
LP is an abbreviation of Long Player ( record ) and the clue refers to 22a answer - ALP - A LP
Before CD's in the "olden days", music records were called Singles ( one song each side ) EP's - Extended Players ( 2 or 3 on each side ) and LP's - Long Players ( more than 6 on each side )

sort of makes sense now. 12 hour shifts don't help the thought processes much. PAL is also a reference to 22a
'Friend first to finish mountain'.
