Chickens in small flocks live several years if conditions are correct. A life span of 6-8 years may not be unreasonable.

We had a Rhode Island Red rooster that lived nearly 10 years...
I keep about 8 chickens, I inherited two bantems last year from somebody who was moving and needed a "retirement home" for them to live out their remaining years one was 12 and the other it's offspring 10.
The first died about 3 months ago but the youngster is still OK.
I believe this is pretty much the upper age limit though I haven't heard of any others that have lived this long. Might be an individual or sub-species thing
