Little Churches

Just back from a holiday in Halkidiki, Greece. Every few hundred yards along the road there was a little church sort of thing by the roadside. Anyone know what they are.

the ones I have seen on Greek Islands are there as a memorial to someone who has died in a road traffic accident. You often get them with a photo of the person inside them.
