Jessie SH you could try making one up with him being the main character, kids love that sort of thing, do you have a garden?  Take him on an adventure around it looking for monsters!  My 4 year old loves action man. Can you get to a car boot sale and buy a couple second hand - take him with you and give him 2 or so and you should be able to find something. Go to a local library and sit and read with him (doesn't usually cost anything).  Picnics (themed) are also good fun.  God you can tell I am a childminder!!!  Have a good week!

thanks,  shaz_rla, you are great, how come those amazing ideas never come to me, you  enlighten me. It's fun to make up stories and put people I know in it like the movie, Finding Neverland. Dress him like a little pirate or something. That's fun. Thank you for your great idea.;)

No problem Jessie SH !!!!  Have fun!
Some good ones for his age might include:

Where the Wild Things Are (Maurice Sendak)
Harold and the Purple Crayon (Crockett Johnson)
Toot and Puddle (any of them by Holly Hobbie, but particularly "Top of the World")

My little one is nearly the same age. She loves books, but after a few tends to lose interest. One thing she LOVES is her indoor tent, but you can make something similar with some couch cushions and blankets. We give her a little lantern and some toys and she'll stay in there for quite awhile sometimes.

Good luck!

there is a fabulous book called "Into the forest" by Anthony Browne. They'll have it at your local library. It's a great story, very easy for you to read to him as there are hardly any words. Despite this the story is quite scary and really grips you.

There are loads of things to spot in the unusual illustrations too. After borrowing from the library, I've just bought this for my 4 year old.

Any books by Roald Dahl are winners with children , especially if you 'put on' different voices for the characters.

Thanks for all the advice and experience you have shared with me. I am a Chinese and my hometown is ShangHai that's what SH for. I am studying in BJ ,  I trained home to spend weekends there, with my family and my nephew( I am sorry , I mistaked it with cousin) , we had fun to mix pirates and  chinese monkey king together, enchanting!

It's a pity that I might have no chance to lend some children's stories you recommended , Anthony Browne's Into the forest, and Roald Dahl' books. I am looking for them on the net , and at least I can learn sth. about the author, that's good. Thank you , shaz_rla, Rystan, crisgal, Emily Ball. You let me know that in Britain children's world is that brilliant and advanturous.  :)

Thomas the Tank Engine books are fun. They also have toys and DVDs.
I'm actually a Yank, but you're quite welcome.
