opinions / cuteness of kitten
Why do humans have opinions?
and more importantly why do matters such as whether a kitten is cute cause people to have opinions? It won't be that you were brought up that way such as an opinion on religion could be caused.

Cute cues are those that indicate extreme youth, vulnerability, harmlessness and need like those of an infant child...we tend to link that to animals like kittens or koalas or monkeys etc.
It makes good darwinian sense as human infants are so helpless by themselves that human beings must be wired to respond quickly and gamely to any and all signs of infantile desire.
Our cuteness bar is set so low that we deem everything which even suggests a human baby to be cute thus attracting attention....A kitten would thus be viewed as 'cute' anywhere (except perhaps by people with degenerate mental abilities)--- wont you view a chick or a calf or a piglet cute eventhough you consume chicken, ham and pork..

The ability to recognise immature members and have that recognition trigger a nurturing response is pretty common amongst most primates and to a lesser extent in other mammals. There are various physiological and behavioural triggers of our nurturing response, the basic desire to protect the young, and humans respond to those triggers because they resemble those found in human offspring - large eyes, large head in relation to the body, clumsy movements, playfulness etc. Its an evolutionary response, our species changing to recognise those features specific to our young.
Gorillas have also been seen to exhibit such a nurturing response to young of another species - At least one "adopting" a baby kitten, and in one other instance a female gorilla protecting a young human child who had fallen into a gorilla enclosure.
