Hi, further to my question below regarding cars, I think I am going down the Vauxhall Omega line.

Questions is, should I look at a 2.2 Diesel or possibly a petrol but converting it to LPG. I only have 5000 to spend so I will be looking for a diesel that costs that amount or a Petrol costing up to 3500. and then converting it.

Anyone converted LPG and regretted it?

I have'nt actually done this but I have researched it and it's worth doing if you do a lot of miles, ie you'll seen get your money back as the fuel as about half price. The main problem is the availability, it's improving but you have to be very aware of where the filling stations are.

My advice is to steer well clear of LPG. In many cases, it prematurely wears the cam head. You would struggle to recoup the cost of converting a car to LPG, unless you were e.g a taxi driver doing 1,000 miles a week.

LPG is struggling to catch on in most garages - it's true the number of stockists is increasing, but very slowly.

Can you risk a trip to a town you don't know, while running low on fuel? Will you find an LPG garage when you get there?

Finding an LPG specialist to service it near your home could also be difficult.

If you bought a diesel, you would get good economy and no problems buying fuel for it - everyone can service it as well.

I don't know if this is still the case, but when LPG conversions first came out, the tank was put in the boot, which of course drasticly reduces your luggage space. This problem might have been resolved by now.
