Can anyone explain why all the post dates (questions and answers) say the same date : 2/06/05 regardless if they were posted today or last week...they all have that date on them...whats up?!

Although I think the American date system is rather silly, one has to admit that we all use it weekly (at least monthly then) when referring to 9/11.  So I guess that as usual, we Brits (and other countries' people too! :-D) are more used to Americanisms, than US citizens are to "quirks" of the rest of the world!  Sad, but true!

P.S. Morning artful - attack of the crazy space bar again hun?  Well done on stopping it at only 2 posts!!! :-D  I bet it's a right pain typing it all out again though! Grrrr!  Happy Friday everyone!

artee I slept like a log too, woke up in the grate but. <cue drum roll and cymbal crash>  graemer I don't know what the outcome was but you always see the lad wearing jerseys.......

Arful Hav a what? Nageela?

HAnn521 I hope you weren't offened by ma second reply to you I was only joking so I would like to apologise-it's the fleeced I could do

Thanks for the sympathy, acw. I'm dead proud of stopping it so quickly. But I gave up the idea of reposting the rest of it so, sorry TCL, I have no idea what I was going to say, probably something totally dumb, no doubt!
The american system of writting dates more closely reflects the usual way we speak about them eg January 1st, rather than 1st of January. but it does give a disconceritng move from back and forth across the scales oftime when.
There is an international standard which is yyyy/mm/dd, which no one uses in every day life, but does enable you to simply tack on the time to get a rational expression of when something happened yyyy/mm/dd/hh/mm/ss. Neat but cumbersome.
At the risk of boring you what time is it on Mars? Answer> Astronomers use Universal Time which means that it is the same time everywhere, and conveniently Universal Time is the same as Greenwich Mean Time.
yeah, I heard Mars wanted to go on to Summer Time year round but the Scots objected as usual. Artful, how did you know your filing was repeating? It happened to me once but I had no idea it was occurring so couldn't stop it, and didn't know till I found most of them had beend eleted.

I don't know, jno but suddenly I had the sensation that the post I was writing started flickering and I automatically dropped the mouse. My post then disappeared from the screen, I scrolled down and saw it had only repeated twice. It really is a right

oops, sorry Artful! But I get the drift - prhaps space bar problems as acw said? Something is connecting to the submit key when you don't want it to.
Question Author

No, you're not 'that' lucky...I am still into the site...I am not, however, into why this started out as a question about dates and somehow ended up with talk of sheep molestation!? If this website is for Q and A...why so much babbling of subject?

And for those actually sticking to the subject: I actually don't know why we write our month before the day in the U.S..

if I get bored enough today, I will do some research and find out. I do agree that it is certainly more logical day/month/year...

To clarify what i said earlier - the reason why I think the US system is "silly" - or illogical, is that it is QUICKER, when viewing a date in numerical format, to spot changes in date when the day is first.  This is probably why the mistake was made by someone used to the American system, and not by someone used to the alternative method.  Anyway, I guess it's just one of those nice little quirks that keeps life interesting.  And it's only a problem if you don't know the nationality/date style of the person writing during the first 12 days of each month!!! :-)
HAnn521 the original question was answered in the very first response. There are a few folk on here who like to inject a bit humour and I am one of them. I am also one of those who likes to help as much as possible. Artful apologised for "hijacking" the thread but it happens and it will continue to happen. It's only a bit fun but information is given along the way.
HAnn521, it is sometimes the case that threads wander dramatically off the point as people start discussing TV programmes, chocolate cakes and so on. (Though you have been particularly unlucky in having a conversation moving from dates to, er, relations with sheep. My apologies for getting into an irrelevant discussion myself.) But if you've logged on and have your question on screen, somewhere near the top right hand corner of the page there should be a box you can click to stop any further replies being posted once you feel you've had the answer you wanted.

Yeah, but that button doesn't always work! :-p

You can in fact report answers for being "too chatty".  However, this can result in very helpful users being automatically banned from using AB - especially at the weekend (when robots take charge).  Plus it's better to say things to people's faces! So....

Perhaps the best thing to do is to keep an eye on your thread.  If it seems to be getting irrelevant, post an answer requesting that people keep it relevant or start their own thread.  If you make a polite request, people will normally be only too happy to oblige! :-)
