29 down: small stones on a beach ***d**e thought was shingle and my 35 across was wrong, but that one is definitely in the past tense. also i have 32 across as ABETS and 27 down as ABETTED, which i think is odd, have i got one wrong?
32a 'Abets' is valid...
27d 'Abetted' is too, but as you say, it would be unusual to have two answers so similar - though your letters don't fit it...
35a Thrown (?)
sorry, lion king, need to refill my vodka drip, too! 27d was a*ett*d, so abetted would fit, if the other abets is correct. the letters ***d**e were for small stones on a beach, and if 35a is thrown, that would change the d to an n , so shingle would fit, so i think you got that right. just the abets and abetted seem very unusual to me. thanks very much for your help. hope i haven't confused you too much. x
