It is a Metro, L reg 94/95.

Was the Philips fitted as standard?

This is for a friends mother who is about 77 years of age and has no manuals for this car. Had a new battery fitted and of course the radio will not work

Yes, Philips was fitted as standard. 

It would appear that it requires the radio code reinputting.  Now, you need to locate the radio code!  Look on any invoices (if serviced at a Rover garage) or log books etc., and try and locate the code.  If you're unable to find the code then you'll have to go to a Rover garage and supply them with your Vehicle Idenitification Number.  If you're a regular customer, or former custmer, then they will probably provide the code free.  However they may change for this service depending on how friendly they are (they would usually contact the factory but with everyone that's happened I'm not sure what they'll do now).

An update on the radio code problem.

My friend took the car to a dealer as his mother told him there was a brake problem. He asked them to sort out the radio code at the same time, they would charge twenty pounds for this.

After waiting seven days, he telephoned the dealer as his mother required her car. He collected the car, minus the radio. They are having a problem getting the code.

One other point, this radio has no make or model number on it.

Will update when the problem is resolved.
