MY daughter has started swimming competatively and we are looking at her diet. We are wondering what slow releasing energy foods would be suitable for her,she is 11yrs old.

I believe porridge is an excellent slow-releasing energy food for people of all ages.
Getting a child of 11 to eat it though, is another matter entirely.
tesco do a low gi book that will explain all. or look it up on the internet. usually its food that isn't processed that your body will have to break down itself.

Some of the best slow releasing energy foods include whole grain products such as brown or seeded breads,pulses such as kidney or baked beans, brown rice or pasta,nuts and seeds, fruit.
Do take a look at low GI foods as DONNA said...all would be perfect.

Many local runners take roast sunflower and pumpkin seeds mixed for their slow release properties. These are available from health food shops. They can be taken in very small quantities over a long period of time. Obviously don't let her eat then swim too soon.
