my wife has recently discovered that she is 4 weeks pregnant and has been experiencing stomach cramps (like period pains but milder and no blood). Is this anything we should be worried about?

congratulations..... being early pregnancy i would not hesitate to get these cramps checked over by professional understandably you are worried so reassurance that all is fine once checked over will put your minds at ease.... x
Its odd but I've read these period like pains can be a symptom of early pregnancy - very confusing when trying to get pregnant and "reading" your body early on.   Hope she sees the doctor and is reassured soon - theres no point worrying.  Oh yes, and congratulations!
try ringing nhs direct if you are in the uk 08454647
I believe period-like pains about the time a period is due, but missed owing to pregnacy, is/should be normal and nothing to worry about...  congratulations by the way.

I too would suggest your wife seeks medical advice, but try to not get too stressed about it. A lot of women experience period like pains (around the time they would have been due) for the 1st few months.

I am 15 weeks pregnant & before I did a pregnancy test was convinced my period was arriving for about 5 days, but it didn't.

Good luck.

I was told by my doctor that the pains are due to all the ligaments loosening and preparing for the pregnancy and childbirth, which is caused by the surge of hormones.  But check it out anyway.

Congratulations from me too!

These uterine crampings seem to be fairly normal for a number of women in the early stages of pregnancy. I had exactly the same - in fact, they felt like quite bad period pains but my period never came. The cramps went on for the best part of two weeks until I discovered I was around 6 weeks pregant. I was a bit worried about the cramps too but my midwife reassured me that this was perfectly normal. (I live in Sweden and it is midwives who deal with pregnant mums right through their pregancy up to childbirth and for several months afterwards).

My wee baby/girl was 2 last Thursday.

ramasus can u update us on how the wife is....did youseek medical reassurance , are things better now, hope so x

Thanks for all your advice. My wife spoke to a doctor and he said it wasn't totally normal but wasn't abnormal either (whatever that means!!) She feels a bit more reassured in the light of all your comments though!
