Nope ~ not me!
I got done by a mobile speed camera a coupla years ago... aparently it was in a flourescent van, but I didn't see it!!
Same as you, fairy!

Does a PC hiding behind a big tree with a handheld camera count ?

I was done 10 years ago for doing 47mph in a 30mph zone. Won't deny I was doing this, but in my (slight) defence, I was within 50 yards of a "national speed limit" sign (i.e.60mph) and put my foot down as I approached it.

No doubt the local constabulary realised this and, with the assistance of a very large strategically placed tree trunk, found there were easy pickings to be had.

Tellingly, the PC who stopped me was extremely courteous and even apologetic !

A small village near me decided to set up a Talivan as Ive heard them called. I got caught at 42 in a 30. Silly me. When I received the notice, I couldnt believe it and tried desperately to recall seeing a van or hand held camera. I remembered reading somewhere that if they are going to set up mobile cameras, they have to warn you within one mile. I wrote to Bedfordshire Police to remind them of this, but they wrote back saying that because they were the Safety Camera Partnership and they had been asked to trap speeding motorists by the local residents, that they didnt need to put up warning signs.
My argument is, if you know cameras are around, you slow down. Hence they are doing there job in reducing speeding traffic. If they dont let you know they are around, people still speed, and the camera makes lots of money. This smacks of pure revenue generation.
I never have, but  (I might get booed out now) at the other side of the road from one of my busstops there is a good hiding place for the police when they're out looking for speeders. I take great pleasure in seing a lot of people get tickets as they speed like mad, run the lights etc. Some of you might find me petty but oh the joy...

I'm with you Kaktus.  :-) I just don't think it should take the risk of a fine to make people slow down.  We all know the law - we all passed our driving tests.  We don't need sign on shop doors saying "By the way, please don't steal in here, theft is illegal".

If nothing else, what about the image of a child (or even any person) smashing into your windscreen and then dying on the road, or being left in a PVS.  Doesn't THAT make you slow down?

It DOES generate revenue for the police, but why the heck shouldn't they?  People claim about too much crime but they are not prepared to pay for it via direct taxation.  Therefore, the police enforcing the law, and also raising money to fight crime.. well, it  seems perfectly fair to me!

So true acw, so true. The difference those few miles or km/h do to your braking distance!

So sorry for high jacking the thread Smudge

*Correction to my post - should read... "people COMPLAIN about too much..." (not people CLAIM) D'oH!

Sorry smudge. I realise an email about a correction is annoying, esp when it's correcting a chatty answer! Sorry!
