Is it true that after a while hayfever tablets stop being effective?

No - only if the allergy's severe. With normal bouts of hayfever, you have to take the tablets every day though. If you use nasal sprays, these can become covered in bacteria, and re-infect you, so should never be shared or left to get "old".

I have been taking the tablets for weeks now and I took them last year but my allergy is awful. My sister is saying that they stop working after the body becomes used to them but I dont believe her as she just makes stuff up as she assumes a lot of things.

if your allergy is more severe you may need a perscription anti histamine that is stronger than those sold over the counter, Check the date of your tablets also

it is a prescription antihistamine but from last year but perfectly valid date on them. I dont know...it is always really bad at this time of the year and those sprays just make me sneeze more and give me nosebleeds.

perhaps a review at your doctor would be useful. Often when you open any sort of drops or sprays they say use within a certain time. So perhaps the nasal spray is off as it has been exposed to air

i got to a point where after over 10 years of suffering, taking tablets and using nasal sprays, in the end i got so bad with hayfever nothing worked, i swear rubbing my eyes so much has given me bags as i would rub and rub as it drove me mad. i then discovered that i could have a steroid injection for it. it was like a miracle cure overnight, incredible. i felt that my life had suddenly changed so much for the better. i could have windows open, walk down country lanes, sit outside pubs of an evening, not have to have a shower every time i came in with pollen on me. they say that steroid injections can thin the bones but this really didnt deter me, i would have the jab may time, normally in june i began to suffer, and it would still be effective in september. i would definitely recommnend this though its obviously down to you. good luck in sorting this out, hayfever is just the worst.

bubbles4920-I dont mind having a steroid injection (it would make my muscles grow) but its really up to the GP to decide how bad my condition is as they are always really tight and want to go for the cheapest remedy available.
