grundig sky box problem
2 Answers
I have SKY with the multi room option. My upstairs box keeps saying 'THERE IS A TECHNICAL FAULT WITH THIS CHANNEL.PLEASE TRY LATER' or 'NO SATELLITE SIGNAL BEING RECEIVED'. I have spoken to SKY and they have been through the usual checks. They just seem to want me to pay an extra 10 odd a month to cover an extended service agreement or pay 60 for an engineer to come out. Does anybody have any ideas why this could be happening. I have switched the box off and on again, checked the connections, all the usual stuff.

The symptoms you have are those for a faulty power supply (PSU) - they suffer from dodgy capacitors which fail with time and need replacing. They are of a special type ("low ESR") so you can't just go to Maplins and get replacements, even if you know which 12 to replace and what value they each are.
You can get more details, buy a complete repair kit (to mend the PSU yourself), or a replacement PSU here;

I agree, and have repaired a few grundig boxes with duff caps,. howver those tended to b around 1999-2004 ish.
i would check the cabling, the F-connector should have the central pin of the cable straight with no strands of screening touching it at all. the screning shoud be in contact with the plug body. see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzoGX6ef4y8
if there is a badly fitted plug then you will get the problem you have. also check it is connected well at the the LNB, and properly insulated from the weather.
