Anyone know of a site I could use to try and identify a bird in the garden. I have tried the RSPB site, but still don't know what it is. It's like a sparrow with a slightly longer tail and has some white feathers along its wings and in its tail. It also has a tuft of dark feathers on the back of its head. Many thanks for any help.
One of the biggest problems at this time of year is the appearance of fledglings. Much like the adults but somehow not the same- tufrs on heads are often fledglings and chaffinch does sound about right
Thanks Steve, but I think the others are right--saw it this morning and the tufts are much smaller now, so probably a baby bird.
Thanks everyone for your interest and help--I so love my garden birds!
