virus on computer
10 Answers
hi everyone
ive managed to get a virus type program on my computer which is driving me mad.
it has appeared as an anti-virus type program complete with a logo in the task bar. it says it is called system security version 4.51
a pop up box keeps appearing telling me my computer is infected and when i click on remove virus it takes me to a payment page where it wants me to pay for a monthly subscription.
the virus seems to have disabled my aol, my msn messenger and my norton security, i can still use internet explorer.
i went to the list of programs and deleted the file but the program is still running. i went to find files and put system security in but it found nothing. i ran a full system scan and that found nothing either.
anyone got any ideas how i can get rid of the bloody thing ?

Download, install and run Malwarebytes Anti Malware. Make sure you get the latest updates before running a scan, and that should find and get rid of it for you. I ran a full scan (took around 30 mins on a 50Gb disk) and had to reboot the PC to finish getting rid of it

er .. No peachy, but it might be worth posting details of your problem in a question to see if any of the real experts have any ideas !
I do have a link for a list of security and privacy software though. However there are NO recommendations as such in the list, and some of the software in it really is not for everyone to fool around with !
The link page for the list is here - read it, follow the link and read the disclaimer, then go looking if you want.
I've used articles and recommendations from Gizmo's site often enough to trust them, but I'd still suggest posting a question here first !
