Layer Cake plotline

I'm not thick, but I'm slightly confused at the plot of this film. When XXXX meets Eddie Temple in Canary Wharf, he tells him that Jimmy Price has sent him to find his daughter in the hope that Eddie would kill him in the process. In the car, Eddie plays the CD of Jimmy shopping the dealer to the police, but I'm slightly confused as why he stitched him in the first place, the only reason I can think of is that the accountant he set him up with is going steal his �1 million retirement fund, and when he's been arrested there would be nothing he could do. Yet Eddie Temple clearly states that Jimmy lost �13 million, and he was planning to hold his daughter hostage until the money was returned?

I'd sort of assumed that Jimmy is grassing people as part of some sort of deal which allows him to operate without police interference, and doesn't want XXXX to retire 'cos he makes Jimmy too much money, so it's a punishment for retiring that also covers Jimmy's back.

Mind you, since the whole film is a mishmash of "Get Carter" and The Lock Stock/Snatch things, I wouldn't worry too much.
