In Egyptian mythology, two of the many titles of Isis were "The Green Goddess" and "The Lady of Fire". Given that almost all Army vehicles are painted green, one wonders whether a knowledgeable military officer in the 1950s - seeing the stately progress of these fire-engines - made the necessary connection and came up with the name.
