i'm looking to treat my oak furniture with either a wax or oil, can anyone tell me which is best to use?

You could treat it by taking it to the cinema?

Well there is more chance of my furniture Getting a date to the cinema than there is of you get one sad act !!!!!!

You could try danish oil it brings out the grain and its stain resistant. Try it on a scrap piece of oak to see if you like the result.
Your furniture is probably laquer sealed although it may not be obvious
In which case, oiling will not do any harm but probably will not enhance it either.
