with constant update on new friends, status updates, my favourite football team, cars, cartoons of the 80's etc etc, all the poking, hugging, sheep throwing, and giving of tequila, life is just too fast and people move on to the next thing and forget what hapened yesterday or even 23 minutes ago when chantelle was 'bored' and 20 minutes ago when chantelles was 'looking forward to the weekend' etc etc.
so all in all, depends on the lie but i "would" just let it go and hope everyone ignores it just like they do most of the above. and then forgotten it tomorrow.
i "could" brush it off with a reply remark that just debunked the lie and made the instigator look stupid, but then that just gets into a he said she said debacle. so id just let life move on as it does.

I know of someone in the military who created a group on facebook which made allegations against another serviceman. He was disciplined under the Communicatiins Act 2003, which states:
127 Improper use of public electronic communications network (1) A person is guilty of an offence if he
(a) sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or
(b) causes any such message or matter to be so sent.
(2) A person is guilty of an offence if, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, he
(a) sends by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that he knows to be false,
(b) causes such a message to be sent; or
(c) persistently makes use of a public electronic communications network.
(3) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable, on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.
(4) Subsections (1) and (2) do not apply to anything done in the course of providing a programme service (within the meaning of the Broadcasting Act 1990 (c. 42)).
Just a thought!

Learn from it.
If you have to go on such sites.Which id advise against. But if you have to try to resist the craze to add as many unknow people to your group/page so you appear to have hundreds of friends.theres far too many weirdos on facebook and people trying to harvest information.
keep it small and private.
safest thing is dont go there .its like a magnet for nutters and weirdos.
