My '04 Mondeo estate was outside in VERY heavy rain for 3 days, then went to drive it and the passenger footwells were soaking, back & front. Found the door sill also had lots of water and drained it out, about 2 litres, by pulling out the rubber bungs underneath. Checked the door card membrane and the pollen filter and both were dry as.... I think the water in the footwells came from the sill, sloshing thru the holes at the side of the sill. But how did it get in there in the first place ?! A mystery to me ! any clues please Willieo
It happens the same thing with my Mum's Skoda but that's a lot older - around 1997 - but as cars get older the bonnet near the front window gets rusty and when water falls on it it goes down into the car.
I don't think it can be helped unless you do something to the front bonnet bit.
I see you have checked the underside plugs, has the car had a new front / rear screen? check you boot, look at the base of your spare, is the plug intact? has the windows been closed properly? check your door seals, Just behind the Front N/S + OFF/S pull back the splash Guards & check the rear for drain blockage.
Thx for your suggestions. I'm letting it dry out, then going to spray water onto door windows etc to see where the leak might be. Will let you know if I find out !
I had exactly the same thing with a 14 year old Carina. Totally baffled me where the water came from. Still got the car , it still runs perfectly well but it does have a funny damp pong about it. This happened a year ago, I had it valeted the day before, then they heavy rain came, I do wonder if the valet people spilled a bucket of water in it but I'm sure I would have noticed when I picked it up!! Very odd!!
