Opened my washing machine when I got in from work and there was quite a bit of water sitting in it. I drained it before use, but why was the water there?
inside the machine, the end of them sticks out the back of the machine and it's the part the water pipe(s) screw onto.
Keep an eye on it, it may be a one off, they sometimes get a little bit of limescale caught in them which clears on next use.
If it keeps filling up with water while it's not being used then you will probably have to replace the valve. If you do it's about the easiest job to do on a washing machine, if you can hold a screwdriver you can do it. post again if you need to replace it.
If the drain pipe from the washing machine plugs onto a spigot on the sinks drain pipe then make sure the flexible pipe is routed as high as you can get it and then down to the machine.
If it's not the machine might be filling with dirty water you put down the sink (euuughh)
we had a similar problem. As Chuck says, get the outlet pipe high, we used one of those tool springy clips like this as the pipe was short. Clicked it up when the machine was back in its recess. It was sucking dirty washing up water into the machine, Choice!.
