I will try to refphrase my question,On my computer down in the right hand corner there is a windows update symbol(the yellow shield looking thing)and when I go over it with my mouse it says downloading 87%.It doesn't go away and the percentage doesn't change.Can someone let me know what this could be?I have restarted my computer and it comes back.I hope this explains it better.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Firstly, try right clicking the yellow shield and see what options there are. I think there is a pause option so you should be able to un-pause if that's the case.
Are you on a dial up connection? It could be just that it's really that slow. The other thing is, it uses QoS (quality of service) I think and so stops downloading when you use the internet for anything so it doesn't intterupt the use of your bandwidth.
Try not using the internet at all for 20 or 30 mins and see what happens. If nothing happens, do a manual update (start, windows update) install updates then reboot.
