I've just read in a magazine that apple trees go through a "June Drop" where a lot of fruit drops off the tree and what is left has more room to grow. Perhaps the same thing happens to pear trees?

r u a bit short of rain? The soil is dry in the South as not much rain, plenty of wind & sun. If the soil dries fruit drops but flowers bloom.

Thank you I probably started to water a bit late to save them. It has been a bit dry of late and wondered if this was the problem. Will know for next year
