What does it mean to "be British"?

It means you can queue for hours and complain about the weather.

It means you can complain about the state of everything around you, yet do nothing about it.

It means you can sit for hours staring at the TV complaining that theres nothing on.

It means you can have three different mobile phones and still be out of reach in an emergency.

And finally, you get to complain about being 'British'

It means being teased by Americans about not being a very big country. But it's not size that matters. Scotland, England and Wales may not be geographically big, but the influence they have had (separately or together) on the world has surpassed that of all other countries on the planet!

Two more things about this sceptr'd isle - cheese and chocolate. Cheddar cheese is the best in the world. Foreign makes are too mild or too mouldy. Cheddar cheese tastes like REAL cheese - the way cheese should. And British Choco like Cadbury's or Rowntree-Mackintosh tastes like real choco should - sweet! Hershey's disgusting American garbage is tasteless, while Euro Belgian / Swiss stuff is either too sickly or lacking in sweetness.

I used to think it was very important, the most important.
I applied for French nationality knowing that I wouldn't lose British nationality and when I travelled I always travelled on my British passport.
Last year my GB passport ran out, I downloaded the forms and rang the Consulate to ask the cost. Blooming heck, have you seen the price? I've since forgotten how much but it costs a fortune. A few minutes more with the lady on the phone and I hung up saying 'Sud that!' - yes, I have my ID card and if I need a passport I'll go 100% French.

Conclusion: I'm sorry to say it obviously no longer means that much to me. First time I've said that.....
