Planning permission for parking

we are wanting to dig out part of our front garden to create parking for 2 cars. we are not on a main road, just a side road. should we get planning permission or just dig out??

Best to write to council for agreement.....they are thinking of increasing tax rates for concreted gardens.

You will need to apply to the council for a dropped kerb, otherwise you won't legally be able to drive on to your parking space.

If you are concreting over any area of an existing garden you need planning permission..........this requirement came into force in November last year. It may not be easily granted as applications are being turned down in areas of poor surface drainage.

Close, but no cigar.
If the area is more than 5 square metres, you are using a non-permeable surface (like concrete), and it is not constructed so the water doesn't drain naturally into the open garden, and you live in England, THEN you need to apply for Planning Consent.

good job I don't smoke cigars then eh.........so how big an area would you need to pave over to park 2 cars on?
